Erectile dysfunction

Failures in men’s sexual life are often called “impotence”. It’s not actually the most correct term for that. Many doctors will consider this term describing the state when a man can’t manage a natural erection under no circumstances. Likely, impotence itself is not a frequent diagnosis. If you experience sexual failures from time to time – it is called Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

In more medical words, Erectile dysfunction (from Latin erectus (plumb standing) and old Greek δυσ- (negative prefix that denies a positive meaning of the word) → Latin dis- (prefix that means fragmentation , slicing, dissection)+ Latin functio- (function and execution) – is a disorder of men sexual function, as a result of it male can’t attain  penile rising in order to manage a stable erection for making a normal sexual act.

In most of the cases ED’s nature is neuropsychic disorders (neuroticism, depression, neurotic conditions that come along with various cases). It is so called “mental erection disorder”. Sometimes ED may appear along with other diseases or as a side effect of taking other drugs. For example: antihypertensive, psychoactive drugs that suppress central nervous system, estrogens and anticancer drugs. Organic and psychological origin of ED appears in different variations. This is a separate theme. See our next post.

As a rule a man diagnoses a case of ED when he is not able to support his penile erection more that 25% of sexual acts that he makes. According to Americans’ researchers, more that 150 million men with the age of 40 suffer from ED. Some of them still enjoy their sexual life by using Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors drugs containing in Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and their generic forms.
